From January 12th to 16th 2015 the annual workshop of the West and North African “Research Network on Sexual and Reproductive Health” took place at CEFOREP (Regional Centre for Training, Research and Advocacy on Reproductive Health), our Senegalese network partner in the seminar room of CEFOREP, located in the Maternity building of the University Hospital Aristide de Dantec, Dakar, Senegal. The second meeting of the network was attended by network research institutions/teams from Tunisia, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea and the host country Senegal (Network Institutions: West Africa: CERRHUD, Cottonou, Benin; AFRICSanté & Centre Muraz, Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso ; CNFRSR de Maferinyah, Guinea- Conakry ; ENSEA, Abidjan, Ivory Coast; CEFOREP Dakar, Senegal. North Africa : ENSP, Morocco ; ONFP & Direction Régionale de la Santé de Nabeul, Tunisia).
The objectives of the workshop were the finalization of the research protocols and to enhance their capacity of research on qualitative methods, ethics and sampling. The purpose of the presentations on research methods was to help them to write those sections on their research proposals. The final objective of the workshop was to enhance the collaboration between the different research institutions. During five intensive days of work, all proposals were peer-reviewed and revised.
Several 2-hour sessions were provided on sampling, qualitative and mixed method research methodology, ethics and evaluation. A discussion session on financing research in the region by UNFPA was led by Mr Sidibé, chief of program of the UNFPA Regional Office, Dakar. The meeting was closed Friday 16th January by the head of the University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Prof.Jean Charles Moreau. The next meeting for the network will be held at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp in May, 2016.
