On October 8th 2014 an exploratory workshop on Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) in Morocco was held at the National School of Public Health (ENSP) in Rabat, Morocco. The event has been organized by ENSP in collaboration with the Centre of Maternal and Child Health (W&CHRC), ITM. 24 participants from leading national professional and scientific organizations involved in the management and care of women affected by GDM, representatives of the Ministry of Health as well as members of civil society associations attended the 1-day workshop. Prof Vincent De Brouwere and Dr Bettina Utz (from W&CHRC) attended the meeting that had as objectives the assessment of the actual situation of GDM in Morocco and the identification of priority areas for research. Various challenges for the detection and management of GDM in Morocco as well the role of the community were explored extensively during the meeting and focal areas for future research defined.
